Framus Hollywood Star Bass-1961 SOLD

Sorry this item is no longer available-SOLD

Genuine & very rare collectable 1961 Framus Hollywood Star Bass Model 5/148 . Serial No.52727-61M.  (That's made December 1961). The bass is all original except for the replacemaent Framus tuners. Original gold to red sunburst finish with beautiful detailed aged laquer cracking. The overall condition of the finish throughout is amazingly good, I suspect that the neck could have had a black added at some time but it's in keeping and could be original. The body is actually made of a semi thin line acoustic chamber about 3cm thick with a set neck. The scratchplate is of metal and has two slide grooves for the pickup to be slid and adjusted to the desired position for extra tone control ( this is easy to do while playing and can make a vast difference to the tone of course). The neck is lovely & straight and has a truss rod. The guitar had extremely large non original schaller type chrome tuners with footprints on it when I got this guitar 6 years ago and I have been meaning to get some replacements from Framus , this I did and because of the much smaller holes needed for the machine head stems I had to reduce the size of the holes in the head with dowels and redrill etc etc. The result is functionally brilliant with a bit of cosmetic touching in-It is of course still possible to see where the other machine heads were ( I do wish people would leave vintage instruments as they find them with original parts-moan over! ). The Framus logo on the headstock is MOP inlay and very nice as is the Framus script on the scratchplate which is in very good original condition. The end strap button is exremely large , no way of telling wether this was an add on or original & there are two small screw holes near it where I guess othe positions for a stap button were tried during it's life. All electrics working 100% include the volume & tone pots with no crackles and a good solid original jack socket. The tailpiece ( Which says Star Bass on it) is in great condition with heavy chrome. The adjustable bridge is non original but very close to what would have been. Dimensions: Overall length 1060mm, body width at shoulders widest point 330mm, body length 420mm, body depth 30mm, Scale length 760mm.

This is rare & wonderfully comfortable playable bass with a light body ,low action, sounds very tasty with a great low end thump if you need it going to delicate tops for other styles, would look great on stage, ideal for a 60's fan or would look and sound great for a tribute musician or WHY. Good luck with bidding.
